"Hi! My name is Karen D Hollister. I love making handmade books and art with papers, fibers, copper and found objects!
I began paper & book making when my daughter Lizzy was just a baby and it has grown into not only a professional, but a passion. I design and create each piece in my studio. I am continually making new kinds of books, based upon my customer's need.
My favorite paper is the
Nepalese Lokta Paper. It is an eco-friendly paper handmade from the fiber of the Daphne Shrub or Lokta Bush It gives my books a very organic feel & texture and is lovely to write on!! I use Lokta paper almost exclusively for the inside pages.
For the covers of my books I love to use a variety of papers including Lokta, Mulberry paper, also known as
Kozo paper, Indian Cotton Papers, Mexican Amate Bark Paper, Momigami Papers, and Indian Khadi Papers to name my favorites!
I use Indian
Sari Silk Ribbon and recycled silk yard & fibers for details on the books and art.
I love to incorporate many unique materials, like copper, gold leaf, charms and original drawings & illustrations to enhance the beautiful of the book.
"It's truly a joyful process infusing all the colors, textures and numerous techniques to create each individual work of art." "
